is Alpha1pump needed?

My boat('98 5.0 merc) has a thruhull intake under the boat, and freshwater cooling. The hose from the outdrive pickup is cut off and capped inside the transom. I still flush the boat with water to both pickups,thru-hull and outdrive. The outdrive used to shoot water out the hose that has been cut off in between the outdrive and the transom. I now notice that this is not pumping water out anymore. Does the outdrive water pump serve any other function and does it need replaced or fixed?

In your case the pump in the drive is not needed because you have fresh water cooling which your other pump takes care of.If it were raw water cooled the transome hose would not be capped and would carry water to your motor for cooling. Charlie

But doesn't the raw water circulate through the heat exchanger to cool the fresh water? What is cooling the fresh water if the raw water hose is capped off?
