Bob, I must be getting old. I can remember saying that about Honda while in the garage working on my BSA again. 10 years later I was riding one, better ride and better performance.

Re: Is anyone here riding a Scooter?

There is already a post about this.

I ride a scooter every day for every trip I make as long as it isn't raining. I can't stand riding in the rain. Other than that, everywhere, all the time.

Here are some close estimates of top speeds and mileages of scooters in general in these ranges:

Top speeds Mileage

125cc about 55-60 80mpg
250cc about 75 70mpg
400cc about 95-100 50-60mpg
600-650cc about 110-115 40mpg

Stay away from anything that isn't Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, Aprilia (if you have a dealer in the area) Kymco, (same dealer issue) or Vespa.

Yikessss!

Did you read the fine print on this deal? Being a DIYer is fine, but brand new, it should be ready to rock and roll.

"Remember! You are responsible for performing the setup that a dealer would normally perform - such as putting on tires, hooking up the battery, checking tightness of all nuts and bolts, changing oil, etc. Occasionally some units may need other routine items checked/adjusted such as adjusting the carburetor idle and mixture screws, checking to ensure wires are well connected, adjusting chain slack and alignment, if needed. While we will gladly assist you with any technical questions,"

Cheap chinese junk, stay away from it. You WILL NOT be happy with it. It will break within the first year, that I promise. And they don't even put it together, YOU have to assemble it. How much motorcycle assembly do you have under your belt?

If you want to get it worked on, NOBODY will touch it. None of your local dealers want to even look at the cheap chinese junk.

Get a name brand, for 125-150cc, I recommend the Vino 125 or that other new 125 Yamaha came out with. However, understand that with a 125 it will struggle to get above 55. If you want to maintain 55, go with a 250, if you want to maintain 70, go with a 400.

Re: Is anyone here riding a Scooter?

Someone once told me if you're going to get a cheap chinese scooter get 2, one to ride and one to rob parts off of.

A smart car will keep the rain out, and get ya good MPG too.

Smart cars aren't real smart when you take the long term effects and cost of having to replace batteries and a much more complex machine than a simple scooter with proven technology from the Eisenhower administration.

Not to mention people who don't ride scooters don't realize this....the real savings from scooter riding is not in gas, but insurance. My truck is over a grand a year, my bike 75 a year with the same coverage. That's where the real savings comes in.

I've been riding motorcycles for 50 years. I would feel like a target on a scooter.

We sell Eton Beamer liquor-cycles (we call them liquor-cycles because all the drunks buy them because you don't need a license to operate one).

They have there share of problems, but you can get parts really easily for them. They are only 49cc's but they run close to 50 mph after you cut the speed limiter wire.

Re: Is anyone here riding a Scooter?

We sold a little over 3000 units last year, here's what I can tell ya.

1. You get what you pay for.
2. Everything breaks, parts availablity is VERY important.
3. Aprilias, sometimes are harder to get parts for than some chinese stuff from my regional service manager experience.Couldnt give me one.
4.You get what you pay for.

Any questions refer to # 1 & #4
