I've just graduated from High school with many options to choose from, I enjoy working with my hands on fixing broken items making them run, I've considered the field of boat engines or something in that line of work, My question is does this career have a wide range of things i could persue and if it pays well im going to college this fall for my basics then im soon deciding on what to fall i considered game warden but i rather tinker... a idea on the subject from your experiences would help me out alot

hahahahaha, welcome to it. Two phased answer: Yes, if you own your own yaght, being a boat mechanic is a great thing.
Second phase: NO. Not if you have to find work with a private company. You see, boat parts are expensive, and a shop will hire you on at a certain rate per hour. When you hear of
mechanics making $120 per hour, those are private mechanics with many years of
hard earned experience working freelance. You, on the otherhand, would more than likely be starting off as the bilge scraper at $4 an hour, and never get to see a wrench except for the crappy jobs, even with college. Argg, Honesty, buddy. :)

join the Coast Guard, it'll give you the lifes' experience you desire, and security in the
workplace. Check out the Merchant Marines too, there's a few boating ideas for you! And, of course there is always the NAVY!

Try the Coast Guard Academy, you do not need an appointment, you have the grades, good health should be able to get in. The Army also has boats.

Where is Gladewater??

Many job/career fields are subject to regional pressures. Such as seasonal needs and competing industries.

keep your hands clean and get a computer job hahaha. i am a mechanic and its a back breaking job, messy, sweaty, and dirty. after working 8-10 hours on other peoples stuff i dont like to work on my own anymore. when a hobbie turns into a job its not fun anymore. it was a hobbie for me. i am 28 and loved cars since i was 14. all the mechanics that use to see me tinkering with things told me to stay away from the mechainc feild and i thought they where crazy untill about 10 years later.i find myself telling the younger guys the same thing i was told .lol

I graduated the United States Merchant Marine Academy in 1985. Unable to find hands on work as a licensed, degreed, and Navy commissioned Marine Mechanical Engineer for a US company. Everything has gone foreign and job #'s decrease every year.
Do yourself a favor and pick a career in a growth industry. Maybe video game repair?
Good Luck
