Re: Is Bombardier, Johnson, Evinrude going to make it.

As I understand it, the whole point of DFI, (or the main point at least) was to inject the fuel mixture "after" the exhaust port was closed, thereby vastly reducing the amount of fresh charge that went out the the exhaust port. I can see no reason why a design like that would output more unburnt waste then a 4 stroke. (bar the oil issue.)

As someone else mentioned, valve overlap has much the same result, and since most 4 strokes have to be of a slightly higher tune to compete with similiar sized 2 strokes, overlap is one of the methods used to gain HP... (the fact that it increases emmisions and lessons fuel eccomomy notwithstanding :)

Good luck to Bombi, I have only owned Johnyrudes with the exception of a Crysler or two...

I'm also a Suzuki fan, (raced their motorX bikes for a few years.) but I doubt I'd buy a suzuki OB unless it was in a Jonnyrude because I don't trust the suzuki parts availability.. if its in a bombi housing, they will feel obliged to support it much better then suzuki themselves would.

rgds

Franki

Seahorse
I just went to two boat shows in San Francisco bay area this weekend and am sorry to tell you that many lakes you can not use any 2 stroke engines. I ask if it meets the star 3 rating and 2006 regulations can you use them, the answer was no 4 strokes only even if the 2 stroke is cleaner. This was from the water district promoting recreation on their lakes. For that reason alone I will only buy 4 stroke engines from now on. The state it self has not band 2 strokes yet.

Evin300
I been doing my homework for years. At this time I could not buy a Bombardier Johnson or Evinrude. I see no 4 strokes engines built by Johnson or Evinrude. Since there many lakes you can not launch your boat in if it has a 2 stroke engine here in California I will not buy a 2 stroke. At the boat shows this weekend I ask the Bombardier factory reps when they might build their own 4 stroke motors. The answer was NEVER. I belive they will but from that answer it may not be soon. So my question is would you buy a new motor and put it on your boat if you could then no longer use your boat at the local lakes??

Good news for Bonbardier/Johnson/Evinrude fans. For the first time in 4 years Johnson and Evinrude had a major display at boat show in San Francisco Bay Area. Complete with factory reps catalogs and lots of motors. Also saw quite a few boats rigged with Evinrude motors. Still Mercury was number one by far Yamaha a clear second then Honda and Bombardier about even. Big signs in every hall and even on the drive in.

As I have said in the past I have a close relationship with bombardier and we all have to wait for a week or so there are big things coming from them really soon in terms of thier line up thier star rating and carb ratings I am sure that bombardier will in the 2003 2004 product run have everything you require and will position them selves in front of mercury. We all have to understand that given the previous demise of the product line they are perfecting everything!!! before bringing to market
