the brita filter has a silver content, which like any heavy metal is bad. A friend of mine had a water filtration business a while ago and and when the issues with silver in the water arose, he never touched or sold one again.

Silver in small doses has health benefits, but I've been drinking filtered water for years and I have all sorts of skin problems developed in the last 18 months, just wondering if there might be a connection

msds for brita filter.... wow

Silver is not toxic, Bandit. We have been eating with silverware for generations. You could drink a hundred gallons of brita filtered water a day and not ingest as much silver as eating one plate of spaghetti with a silver fork.

The Brita Water Filter is designed to remove substances of potential health
hazard - lead and copper - from drinking water and, thus, provide a health
benefit. No adverse health effects are associated with its use.
Since the filter is a sealed unit, exposure to the filter contents can occur only
if the filter is broken. If filter breakage occurs, the following should be
considered. Ingestion of large amounts of the silverized activated carbon or
repeated inhalation of the dust may lead to the cosmetic effect argyria in
sensitive individuals. Symptoms of argyria include permanent discoloration of
the skin.
No medical conditions are known to be aggravated by exposure to this
product.
FIRST AID (In the event of direct exposure to filter contents):
INGESTION: Drink a glassful of water; then call a physician.
EYE CONTACT: Flush eyes with water. If irritation persists, call a physician.
INHALATION: Remove to fresh air. If breathing problems develop, call a
physician.
SKIN CONTACT: Wash skin with water

Actually, yeah, you should. Aluminum in the brain has been linked to alzheimers. Doesn't mean I'm going to stop drinking from them, but it's another thing to worry about..........

As long as the filter does not leak.... If the filter leaks out the charcoal and other chemicals you might get sick. If it is an old filter it is full of garbage and if that passes into a single glass..... yes you can be sick.

I would be concerned more about the DHMO danger's!! http://www.dhmo.org/

If you are glowing in the dark then there is ample cause to worry, if not seek a dermatologists advice.
