Is chipped outdrive a problem???

I'm looking to buy a new (used) boat, and I noticed that there is a piece of the outdrive broken off. It's the very back corner on the bottom, most likely caused by a prop strike or something. It's probably only about a quarter of an inch in and maybe an inch long. Is there any reason why that would be considered a big issue? Only thing I could think of is that it might start rusting if not sealed off somehow. Any advice? Thanks

Well we need a little more info to give good answer. What type of drive? what year? what do you mean by back corner?A photo would also be of help.

Outdrives take a beating and get damaged, They are aluminum (as far as I know) so rust isnt an issue.

It's a 2005 Volvo penta 5.0 GL with SX outdrive. Unfortunately I can't get a pic of it right now, but it's the the furthest point to the back and bottom of the outdrive (the thin fin area).

Bottom tip of the "Skeg" breaks are very common. If straight, this is a non-issue. I'd file it to make it look better, but as small as you describe this is cosmetic only as long as there is no other associated damge like the prop and then potentially a bent propshaft.
