Is knowing the Diameter and the pitch enough info to get a new replacement prop? The guy at West Marine told me it would be.

I have a prop w current dimensions : J15 x 17 p. So as long as I get a prop with a 15 diameter it will fit my current setup? (My concern is I don't know if same diameter alone will mean the hub fitting inside the prop would be the same?)

Your running a 15" prop by 17 pitch. What you need to buy...and the guys at West Marine can help you, is a prop for your application. OMC, Mercruiser, etc.etc.... Most of the OMC props are 13 spline props. If you're looking for performance, go stainless. Most boats gain some speed utilizing a stainless steel prop. Be careful going up or down on the pitch though, just remember, every 2* pitch will change you're RPM's by 400. I.E. if you'rerunning a 17P now and turning 5000 rpm, a 15P will turn your motor 5400, and a 19P will pull you're rev's down to about 4600. Ask the guys at West Marine.....they'll get you the right one.

Re: Is Diameter/Pitch enough info

Right, thanks for the help I appreciate it. My concern comes down to having the right fit for the splines, and that the (hub kit?) will fit right with a new prop. Hopefully when I go to west marine today theyll be able to look up props thatll fit my boat just like the links to props on this site does. I just didn't know if diameter/pitch alone would mean any prop with same diameter/pitch would fit my current setup. Doesn't the amount of splines and hub kit come into play and you need to make sure you have the right one to fit that?
Thanks again

The guy at west marine says as long as I get a 15' diameter prop it will fit. So I don't need to find out how many splines the prop shaft or anything else?

Are you reusing your original hub? Does the new prop use the same style hub as your original?

Tell the dude where you get the prop what year, make and HP your engine is. Diameter and pitch is NOT enough enough. The hub/lower unit interface must work with each other.
