Is Engine Balanceing a Must?

I am getting ready to pull my 470? so I can get the exhaust elbow out from behind to either repair or replace. I am not pulling it completely out but am removing all 3 bolts which hold it down so i can slide it over slightly just to get the elbow out and back in. If I don't move the front adjuster on the front engine mount can't I just bolt it back in and it will be adjusted correctly or must i actually pull the outdrive and put a balancing machine on it to re-mount it? Any help welcome. Thank You.

What kind of "balancer" are you referring to????
The riser/elbow is attached with 4 bolts, simple to remove and replace.
Any exaust system work need to have the motor removed.
Drive comes off, R/R motor and realign to promote good coupler life.

Thank You, I gues i used the wrong terms. I really mean is it a must to re-align/ readjust, or can i just put the bolts back the way they came off and be done with it. If re-alignment is neccessary any sugeestion on how to do it.

Unless you want to be buying A LOT of couplers.Alignment shoud be checked at least once a year .When you pull a drive you inspect for oil leakage past the carrier seal (can lead to a blown upper unit), water intrusion from a high bilge or damaged bellows (destroyed gimbal bearing and U joints, exploding U joints do really make a mess of things).Proper service is the key to a Happy Boater.
An "Alignment tool " is the way to go.

DO NOT move the engine while the drive is still attatched.

Any time the drive comes off, engine alignment is checked/adjusted.
