Is it illegal to throw a larger hp motor than the boat's specs stamped on the plate?

The transom bracket on that motor should have about five vertical adjustment settings. Move her up 3/4" at a time and you'll notice quite a difference.

Yea, I tried the farthest one, and it goes straight ok, but when turning, it catches air, and won't stop until I almost shift back to neutral. One notch back, and I can turn again. So I'm trimmed up the best I can by manually doing it with the holes.

Back from autozone. They lend you a compression checker for $40, and you get it back when you take it back. Cool. Bought a normal can of seafoam, and a spray seafoam. $23 ish for both. Not cheap. Hope it works well. I might record it, and throw her on youtube.

Crazy stupid taxes. Autozone, it was 14 for the regular seafoam, and 11 for the seafoam spray.

Compression test cylinders 1-3 was 121. Cylinder 4 was 112.

Compression is ok.

Also, I gotta' agree with the replies that state that you won't gain anything by upping the prop pitch. With a light to moderate load you want to be as high up in the recommended rpm range as possible. You'll get a better hole shot that way and won't lug the engine.

I wasn't talking about the trim adjustment, I was talking about raising the motor on the transom. From your pics it looks like the hull has a shallow V, thus the motor may be too low on the transom. To adjust height like I said, you need to remove the motor from the boat.

The sea foam should give you a bit more crisp performance. Have you checked the foam under the floor? good bet a boat of that age may have a bunch of wet flotation foam that is adding weight to your boat. I would hold off on the new plugs until you have treated the motor with the sea foam, then change em out. Get ready for a great white smoke out!! My neighbors just love when I do this in the spring!!
