30 bucks? go to walmart, 12.99 for a 6 gallon tank

yeppers, here in jersey its do not pump, but if they are really slow, I pump it myself

now the thing is, yeah, you gotta pay a kid to pump gas, a kid you can train to DO THE RIGHT THING

Imagine this folks, the GENERAL PUBLIC allowed to mess with a device that can blow a river of gas out, highly flammable gas - can you imagine what the insurance premiums must be???

heading to florida, we got gas in georgia .. hillbilly there, drunk as can be, smoking a ciggarette and shooting fuel all over his cab ... old style pickup, with the fuel cap right by the driver door, fuel IN THE CAB

drunk in the cab, smoking - and gas in the bed of the truck .. I told the old man, go to another gas station ... no big ol fireball, but I did hear the sirens go off as we finished fueling up down the road

sometimes ya just wonder why ...

Hey CastawayRay, I understand where your comming from, here is Louisiana, its almost all pump your own gas. (Self Serve)

Now take your story and twist it to this, the same drunk pulls into one of your stations. This new kid comes out and starts pumping the gas. The drunk does as a drunk does and throws out his cigarette while the kid is pumping. Now the drunk has blown him AND THE KID UP.

Here, the attendant inside the store, can cut the pump off, if someone lights up, while pumping. Also, most stores have a pay first policy. When the drunk comes in to pay, the attendant has the right to refuse to turn the pump on for him, and call the police.

So no matter which way you flip the situation it comes down to people using common sense and good judgment. I just don't feel it is necessary to MAKE A LAW, that you can't pump your own gas. If it is cold outside, and you don't want to pump it yourself, then go to a Full Service Gas Station, and pay the extra amount, tacked on to rising cost of fuel, already.

I'd also hate the lines, that a law like that, down here would cause, not to mention, now I see why it costs more there, you have to hire another person, just to pump gas, train him, insure him, etc. Not to mention if something like the drunk senerio happends and lawyers get involved with a lawsuit, before it is over I bet someone else will say, "Well, we ought to make a Law." Probably install Intoxilizers at gas pumps! Boy the problems when that malfunctions, and the added cost to them also.

I have to disagree, I think anyone that you will give a driver's license too, and allow them to be in control of a 4000lb + automobile driving down highways, subdivisions, and school zones, but say they are not trusted with a Gas Pump. Doesn't anyone else see a problem with this? We are going to law ourselves into the Poor House!

Just my position, GodsBeast
