Re: Is it me or are their alot of A hole boaters?

i've found 'most' boaters friendly. most pwc folks too.
when i'm out, i usually stay off to myself though. if there's others around and i don't like whats happening, i go somewhere else. i like to treat others like i wanna be treated. i try not to swamp anyone, stay away from others even. everyone is out to have fun. no point in ruining someone elses day. visa versa too. if someone is doing something i don't like, i go somewhere else. not that hard to do.
i try to abide by the rules too. having everything up to date for the uscg. including reg. number. don't give anyone any reason to yell at ya, and maybe they won't yell, but instead come over for a friendly chat.
i think there's camaraderie amongst boaters. anyone who's on the lake is way privileged. when i'm out seeing others boating, i wonder about a quote from my uncle. ''i wonder what the poor people are doing today?'' and poor folks don't take that wrong either. i'm poor too. just lucy enough to be out boating..
sure wish the world wasn't so full of hate for others.
if someone is doing something ya don't like, go somewhere else, oh, i already said that.. ;) i can only control me. not others. so sometimes i have to make concessions to get along..

I was on your side till it got physical. Calling the cops after you had him cornered would have been the better move.

Now i have to agree with 45 auto but i don't strap a big piece on too bulky, i like a .380 auto small size big hole when it hits.

I'm 55 fat, have diabetes, and 2 stints installed near my heart, and won't try to mix it up with a giant sized guy, was a time i would have, and maybe lost, but no matter how big the guy was, he would have known he was in a fight.

But what choice would this guy had if he was strapped with a heater on, he would have had to defend himself.

So many times i can't count, guys on the water just don't know what they are doing, and putting themselves and others at risk, maybe it's they don't care doesn't matter the outcome is the same.

You have to shrug it off as in any other aspect of life and keep on going, doing what you know is right, and keep your eye out for the other guy, so his mistake doesn't impact you.

Just my 2 cents from a ole guy that has more time behind him then in front of him.

Not sure of the demographics of Myrtle Beach, but you may want to be careful where you try your intimidation tactics. We had a similar situation down here (New Orleans area) about 7 or 8 years ago. Jay Merrill may remeber it? The "punk" pulled a 9mm out of his jet ski and blew the over-developed a-hole away. Courts upheld it as a justified shooting since the punk was in fear of serious bodily injury.

I personally keep a shorty AR-15 in my boat. Things are going to get interesting if someone starts chasing me down.

Yup. More and more states have concealed carry laws for such occasions. In Florida, one can also open carry while fishing.

sportsmanphil - A big guy running down a smaller guy is just asking to be ventilated. Especially since all that happened was that you got wet. Imagine the headlines... "Witnesses reported that a very large man chased down and attacked a smaller person after accidentally being splashed. The little guy was in fear of his life or great bodily harm and fired four shots into the attackers chest. The attacker is currently in a coma in a local hospital and doctors state that he is brain dead and will be kept alive until his family pulls the plug. Authorities pronounced it a justifiable shooting."

You may have much worse luck next time. Might be time for anger management classes.

As for skiing on river glass... bummer, but skiers don't own the water anymore than anyone else does. When I lived up north and fished the Upper Potomac, the river was often just a couple hundred yards wide. I'd hit the water before sun up and use my electric trolling motor to go down river a short distance to fish the banks by the dam, then as it got light out, I'd motor upriver in my bass boat to the shallows.

Yes, there were times when I'd encounter "early-morning" skiers enjoying the smooth water... At 30 - 35 mph. Half my speed. And they don't always drop back into the water quickly. They know how to stay up. So, I'd give them the widest berth possible, cruise safely past them, then hit the throttle and blast upriver at 70mph. The fish don't wait. LOL :D

Re: Is it me or are their alot of A hole boaters?

One thing I have to add to this Matt . . . When I am pulling a skier or wakeboarder, say it's 8:30 AM, we got out earlier than usual for some glass, and the river is wide open, and a big honkin' mirror from end to end. If a flippin' jetskier, or boater for that matter, finds it sooooo important to pass me and muck up the good stuff, I am less than pleased. If that is what has been happening, then sorry, it's just one of those things.

If, on the other hand, you hang back, and as soon as the skier goes down, you pass, then you are awesome with me. I don't care if you're on a Stand-up 440 or a in an Unlimited Hydro with turbines . . .

QC, because your out there at 8:30am, you own the water, why should I come off plane, so I don't "muck up the good stuff" how much more arrogant can you be!

Yes I would give you a wide pass, if the water allows it, but to come off plane for everyone that is sking or tubing woudl get very tiresome and expensive when it comes to fuel.

And by the way, 8:30am is not earlier then usual for everyone, maybe for you, but I like to head out around 7:00am. So when you come around sking you aree disturbing my peace, so do you mind waiting until around 9:30 so you don't muck up my quiet time. Thanks

I have been in to muscle cars, hot rods, Motorcycles, boats, fishing and other things and there are knuckleheads wherever you go. Just let them be knuckleheads and go somewhere else I always say.

Wow! This is rapidly turning into a "mine's bigger than yours" sort of deal. That's too bad. We all have to share the water, and just a little courtesy goes a long way.

We all get annoyed by other boaters and users of the waters we use. Comes with the territory, I suppose.

Wow, the replies fly quick here.

At the time I ran a service dept for a 5 star Chrysler dealer but I also owned a tow service which put me in good partnership with all the local law enforcement.. and a lot of danger through the night.

One mentioned I had an 'anger' issue which is kinda funny as a dozen or so here talk about carrying and pulling a 9 or 45.

I duked it out with my fist, like a MAN should. Pu$$ies talk about pulling guns.

I mentioned my tow business because it almost required me to carry. Ive been held up so many times I cannot count. Yet not once have I lost a red cent. I do carry now and did at that time.

90% of the gun comments made is considered brandishing which is illegal, and way worse than popping some jackel in the nose.

I've always "carried" on the water. It's called a 37 mm military flare launcher with white phosphorous (or magnesium shells).
"I love the smell of burning muscle-boys in the morning":D

But, I've never had an issue that I couldn't ignore. Just because somebody else is an a-hole doesn't mean that I have to be one. I wasn't raised in a friggin' barn.

Someone needs to be working his ABC's. Attitude, behavior, and character. It takes a lot more to walk away from a situation than to be the one who has to settle things. Not everyone is out to get you. Not everyone is looking to ruin your day. If I awaken and feel the world is out to get me, I will soon find someone who will oblige me.
There does seem to be a large percentage of boaters who have had bad experiences with jet skis. I have had some fun on them over the years, and have never intentionally tried to use one to cause anyone any aggravation.
Just be nice.......

Nothing about this thread will turn out for the better...it's negative from the beginning, generalizations, etc.

(( directed to Sportsmanphil )) Really...boat rage?? There's enough rage going on, on the roadways. The last thing I want to do is put my boat in the water to pick a fight somewhere. If you have that much rage that you would chase down someone who sprayed some water on you...and beat them up, then you really don't deserve to enjoy the waterways with the rest of us.

Re: Is it me or are their alot of A hole boaters?

What really got to me on my issue was how close he was. I sat up and he was 2 feet from my legs as they hung in the water. I could have cared less about getting wet but he could have easily broke my legs trying to be a moron for his friends. Which was funny because I dont think they thought it was all that funny as they were no where to be found afterward.

Way I figure it, his busted nose could have prevented him from killing someone else in the future.

Way I figure it, him having you arrested for battery could have prevented you from killing someone in the future. You have an obvious rage issue...

I'll just try to avoid the overpopulated waters and let them gun it out. Sooner or later the a-holes and bazooka toting people will all be dead and the early morning glassy waters will all be mine!

Re: Is it me or are their alot of A hole boaters?

this page of the thread has a much better tone (so far)

if you start out with the attitude that someone is an ***** or a jerk, you're going to respond differently than if you give them the benefit of the doubt from the beginning. very much a self-fulfilling prophecy.

besides, the clueless can be fun to watch.

It's pretty easy to misinterpret someone's motive. Some people, when they screw-up, have smiles on their faces just as a natural reaction to being embarased, not because they think they "gotcha". Often what happens on the water is not intentional, but interpreted that way by the "victim". Just like on the roads....

I'll remember that the next time someone speeds down the turn only lane going 70, screeches the brakes and cuts me off 10 feet from the lane split in order to move up 10 cars in traffic, then proceeds to yell obscenities when I throw up my hands in a 'was it worth it?' fashion.

He was just confused which pedal was the gas and I was an unforgiving @ss of a 'victim'.

Maybe I should have chased him down, rammed his car and punched him in the nose or popped a cap in his @ss with my gat! Because that would have improved my commute!

Really, when someone buzzes you on a jet-ski when you are anchored in a cove to fish, who thinks these acts are accidental?

Don't make excuses for the jerks of the world, because it only makes a jerk out of you.

Dude, like wow, not so jolly this morning . . . I was simply trying to explain in what I thought was a nice way that there are some people on other agendas, and that if you wanted to be a nice guy, it would be especially courteous if you let the skier or Wakeboarder at 20+ MPH enjoy some glass for another 7 minutes, while cruising along safely behind at 20 MPH too . . . Why is it arrogant to ask for some smiles and mutual respect? You have no idea how I behave on the water, but I gurantee you I leave more people with a nice wave and a thank you; especially if we are working together ;)

Yes I would give you a wide pass, if the water allows it, but to come off plane for everyone that is sking

That's all I ask for with the understanding again that I never said for you to stop . . . I said "hold back". Annd, I never said "everybody" I meant when there was glass and room. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

And by the way, 8:30am is not earlier then usual for everyone, maybe for you, but I like to head out around 7:00am.
I expected some carp for that, but I assumed it would be good natured ribbing. The fact is I leave my home at 4:00 AM on the first day of our weekend trips. I travel with a wife, three kids, friends, sometimes dogs etc. I suck at getting them rolling on day 2 - ? before 10:00 AM, but we usually stay out past dark. Soooooo . . .

What I do, BTW, if I come across the same situation that I described, is that I hang back at 18 - 25 MPH (based on their speed) and wait for the skier or wakeboarder to quit or splatter. Then I raise my right hand visibly to indicate to the operator of the other boat that I: a) have seen his skier, b) have seen his flag c) understand that there is a rope in the water and d) have seen his boat. Then I safely pass widely and usually exchange a friendly wave as they appreciate the way I have just behaved . . .

Sorry if I found a way to pizz you off. I was honestly only suggesting a method to gain other's favor while using any type of motor propelled vessel around a skier when the water is good :)

Edit: Saw another post where I apparently pizzed off a fisherman . . . To be clear, I was responding specifically to the OPs reference of boats pulling skiers.

This ^^

AGAIN, my issue had nothing to do with being soaked. It was the fact that I was beached and this tard in an attempt to cover me in water stopped 2 feet from my legs hanging in the water off the swim deck, all the while laughing. I do not feel like sacraficing my limbs to damage all for the entertainment of a punk and his friends.

Directed at "Thepotroast",, your replies are nice and diplomatic (border line "cute") but give me a break. If you walk around with a purse long enough, someone's going to take it.

Re: Is it me or are their alot of A hole boaters?

All of this has reminded me of a time a couple of years ago, I was fishing at one of my favorite holes just off a narrow channel and I saw a guy run into a sand/muck bar with a new pontoon and motor. Instead of trimming the motor up he left it all the way down and tried to get off with power. They ignored my offer to help so I just sat back and laughed as he dinged his prop all up. After about 15 minutes he finally shut off the motor and tilted it up and the pontoon just floated off, it was the motor that was dragging not the boat.
I still laugh when i think of it, but it also scares me that people like that are out on the water.
