Is it normal for some moisture to get thru a baot cover

We just had a pouring driving rain here on NC over the last day. Being that i have had my boat less than a week and i store in in the water at my boat slip i went down tot he docks today to check on it when the rain let up.

There was no pooling of water on the cover but i removed it on one corner and some moisture had made it thru the cover as the upholstered part of the sun deck had moisture on it. I climbed under the cover into the boat and there were spots here and there of damp carpeting.

I am hoping this is normal for an extended downpour but am not sure. I am not sure what the cover is made out of but it looks and feel like canvas

Please let me know if this is a problem or if it is normal.

Thanks,
Robert

I know for me that with the heat and humidity here in Ga I get a large amount of condensation on the underside of my cover.

Most covers will let moisture in.As long as they can breath to let it back out is the big concern.
You may want to get a couple cover support poles to tent the cover up.That will allow most of the water to run off.
I use these and they work very well..

I have three of the poles with the vents and yes the cover Sumbrela will let some water seep through where it pools. The vents however will let some of/most of the moisture escape. Just keep an old towel handy to soak up the rest.

is this a new or old cover?

new ones can leak at first at the seams, my last one did at least. it stopped pretty quickly.

old cover might need to be waterproofed again.

I'll second the condensation vote which is perfectly normal. As long as the cover is of a material that breathes it will evaporate. Now, if you discover you are getting significant amounts of water collecting in the bilge on an older cover it may need some treatment to regain water resistance. (Either that, or you are taking on water from the bottom up...)

bow up is also a great way of reducing pooling if you dry store on a trailer. we give ours a few extra cranks upward so the h2o runs off (and out)

Get a bucket of Damp Rid. It will absorb any condensation that makes its way under the cover.

My boat gets condensation in it, thanks to the cool nights and warm days. When the sun comes up, it dries up fine. I was having problems with water pooling during rain that a pole solved.

I have one of those covers from Wal Mart and it seems to work fine for now. I do plan on getting some sunbrella material and sew up some snap on covers since the boat already has the snaps installed.

If you only have a few damp areas after a driving rain, dont worry about it. I have yet to see a totally water free interior after the worse of storms.

If you buy Sumbrella. you will have to have it sewn with a Commercial machine. A home Heavy Duty will not sew it. The Material is too heavy. Just a word of free advice. I tried three different heavy duty machines, been there and tried that. Had to take it to a Canvas shop.
