Is it ok just to launch with a boat more than the GTW specified?

Exactly the reason I waited until the right tow vehicle came along. I bought the truck for $1500 and towing the boat is about all it is used for. It's a farm truck and the farmer banged it around a little but it isn't rusty or dirty and with 180,000 miles it still runs just fine. I added a trans cooler and trans temp gauge, and never let the temp get over 210 for more than a minute or two. I run it to work every couple of weeks in the winter to keep everything lubed up and charged, and take a Lowes trip with it once in a while. The truck insurance is less than $200 extra per year.

I drive 100 miles a day round trip to work so keeping a new vehicle capable of pulling the boat is not an option. I need the 30 MPG the 2.0L 2wd Tracker delivers.

Depending on the ramp, you could use a garden tractor.

I have used my 2009 Kia v6 Borrego to launch and recover a 20 foot tracker q5. Two wheel drive, steep ramp. Worked great. My buddy has a 25 foot SeaRay he tows with a 1/2 ton 2 wheel drive, same thing. Just nice and easy.
