is it ok to keep the lower unit in water for a week?

Not apart, but just up to the vents. i have it in a tub of water while working on the top of the motor.

a bit of a stupid question....but i didnt know if prolonged submersion was bad.

There are thousands of boats that stay in the water all the time. Both fresh and salt.

There's nothing in a lower unit a little fresh water won't hurt!!

well if its salt water u might wanna put some anti seize lube on the bolts u work on like replacing the impeller.

and another thing is little thigns like to grow on ur lower unit and it may start to look a bit ugly

but i dont think anything bad will really happen though

Be prepared for every tool imaginable to somehow fall into the tub if you work on the powerhead while it's in the tub.
Not that I haven't done it and will do it again. The little telescoping magnet is a HANDY tool!

I attached a house stero magnet to a pole just for that purpose JB!Amazing what gravitates to the bottom of a 45 gallon barrel,lol.
