Hi all

I have a 4.3 mercruiser V6 engine that has a problem. I initially found water in the cylinders and blamed the exhaust manifold. they were changed out for new. on running the engine on the hose again i ended up with water in the oil. I scrapped off the manifolds and noticed some water in the bottom of one. I took my heads to a machine shop and had them refinished, there was a warp in one of them, however I noticed that one of the flaps of my starboard exhaust flappers is missing.
is it possible that this flap could have fallen into the y tube and be blocking the exit of the water and exhaust causing a back up of water into the engine. Just a long shot but i am asking any how, if anyone has had any thing like this happen. or what is the case when people loose the flappers.
yeah I rather ask the stupid questions than buy the new parts :D

No Fuss :D

I'm not sure what year your 4.3 is, but I've seen alot of issues with the newer ones having the intake gaskets leak. That will certainly put water in your oil, and your valves.

Intake "manifold" gaskets, just so there is no confusion.

thanks guys, I will be very careful installing the intake manifold.
just for advice sake, I see everywhere that they advise using some type of sealant on the intake gaskets, I was thinking of using ultra copper RTV right around the water ports on the intake manifold gaskets and the regular permatex shellac around the intake ports, as i thrust rtv highly as a water sealant, however it is not good for gas. does that sound like a good solution.

my engine is the merc 4.3 EFI (TBI) gen + year 2000. came with 1 piece exhaust , now converted to two piece.
