Is It Time For A New Starter?

Well it seems my starter is getting weak. When I cycle the key on my 98 4.3 mercruiser sometimes the starter will cycle and hang up at first then finally start turning the motor over to start it and makes a kind of swuealing noise like a bad solenoid. My battery is new and has good voltage and charge, I am thinking the starter may be getting weak, it has never not turned the motor over but I definitely don't want to get stranded on the water so I definitely choose the preventative maintenance route?

Could be the starter.

Are you are sure all your connections are free of corrosion and tight.

If so you may want to pull it & have it tested at autozone or similar.

Be sure to buy a Marinne replacement for fire safety.

Goood luck

They seemed clean, however I am going to clean and retest, I may go ahead and replace it anyways since I'll have the connections off anyways to prevent from having to go in there again. I have to do my circulating pump anyways and only wanna pay shipping once so I may go ahead and order one since the one in there is 14 years old.
