Hey guys, Ive had my bayliner with a 88 50hp force for about 20 years, the last five years I had no time to use it so it just sat and fell apart. In June I did some work on it, rewiring ect, the first day I took it out on the water I noticed it was steaming more than I was used to and it was overheating, so I changed the thermostat, took it out on the water and it still overheated, so I changed the impeller and water pump, still overheats, so now Im thinking should I take this this to a mechanic and blow more money on it, or should I just invest in a new motor? what do you guys think.

Set the lower unit in a tub of water making sure to cover those lined shaped holes with water, then take off the thermostat housing and start motor. Do you get water? Should be coming up pretty fast! If not take lower unit back off and make sure the water pump housing lined up with the brass water feed tube. I tried blowing compressed air my brass tube just to see if I had air flow at thermostat and the relief holes in the leg. Dont throw in the towel so fast!

Ive done all that, and Im getting good water flow, Im noticing a milky brown liquid leaking from the lower unit, the reason I want to throw in the towel now is that Ive always had problems with this motor and Im tired of putting money in it for something else to go wrong. thanks for the responces , keep em coming
