As we are STILL waiting for Mercury to come out with their new Project X motor, I am awondering if they are not on the same page as the rest of us.... Specificly, They eventually release the 250/275 hp motor they have been displaying but most of us are already enjoying the 140/150 hp motors that Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki have already released. How many years 'till Merc makes it's "X" motor into a smaller version ?? Is Merc gunna be too late again?? How about a 8 hp four stroke Merc??? I guess there is no demand, Huh?? Is that why Yamaha sells out of it's 8 hp. each year??? No demand? Who does their market research?? snails??? Patience has it's virtues, but come on, sometime in this lifetime!!!!

THe goal is to meet the 3-star Carb regulations. Merc has done a good job of filling out the portfolio of enines throughout the entire HP range using the Optimax and 4-strokes. Yamaha is forced to go to the 4-strokes since their DFI 2-strokes fall short of the performance/economy/emissions of both Bomb's and Merc's DFI engines. Merc has it bases pretty well covered and does not have to rush into the 4 strokes at this time

I think you may be missing my point. "Johnny come lately" is gunna miss out on all those boaters who will/are buying a 150 hp motor (and 8hp) from Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki.....Now !!!! If and when Merc does come out with their versions, whenever that MAY be, those purchasers are gone..... They are not gunna trade-in their one/two/three year motor just sos they can now buy a Merc... ya think? Unless Merc is also working on their 150 version as we speak, expect to wait two or three more years 'till we see a 150 ????? 8 hp four strokes rule when it comes to a kicker motor, yet Merc STILL does not have one!!! Their 9.9 model (Tohatsu) is a fine running motor if you can lift and carry the darn thing. Their 6 hp is fine, for a single cylinder motor. Oh, ya, it's a Tohatsu also!!! Unlike car and snowmobile owners, boaters do not trade-in their boats/engines every year or two. Those people are off the market for 6 to 8 years..... We all want Project X to be perfect, who cares if they don't "win" the "first to market the product" race, but don't wait forever 'cause the consumer won't!! The advent/popularity of four strokes did not "just happen" last year, they had their head in the sand or thought that they knew what the consumer wanted, but just forgot to ask him!! Turns out, the consumers wanted four strokes more than Merc wanted them to!
