VP AQ130 with 280 outdrive. Reassembled the flywheel cover with new bearings last spring. Not knowing any better, used green waterproof grease when repacking the PDS bearing. I've heard that mixing grease types can compromise the characteristics of both. Do I ned to stay with the green stuff or is it OK to use a regular grease in the cartridges from the auto parts store?

Edit - So the answers show up in the links below your own post. I'll suck up the embarassment and answer my own question in case someone else was wondering the same thing.

The grease I originally used was called a "marine lubricant and wheel bearing grease". The tube describes it as having a Calcium Sulfonate Complex base. The other grease is described as All Purpose Lithium Grease and Petrolium Hydrocarbon Lubricant.

So it appears those two won't have a negative interaction.

Re: Is mixing grease types OK

if there is a chance of it getting wet, I use waterproof (resistant) grease.

Ayuh,... Grease, Any Grease is water resistent by it's nature, Ain't it...
Even Bacon Grease is water resistent... :D

Basically, Most any grease that can be bought by regular joes will mix, with No problems...
But, of course, that link from Bruce explains it, Quite Clearly....
