i have a 15 1/2 ft 1978 angler and its a pretty simple boat not much weight to it at all and a have a 88 force 50 on it and it moves along pretty good but i just bought a trailer that came with a free boat its a 1978 galaxy 16 ft and it has a little more to it like floor boards and a under deck gas tank but i am thinking of switching my 50 on to it because i like its style a little more will my 50 push it along ok or should i just leave it where it is? the pic of the boat is the one i want to put the 50 on:confused:

If you plan on pulling skiers, I wouldn't waste the effort. That fiberglass Galaxy will be underpowered and you will probably be running at high rpms all the time--even without a skier. If holeshot or speed is not important, and all you want to do is putter around the lake, then a 50 will get you minimally by.

Check the capacity plate for max hp. I bet you can run at least a 70 hp-- maybe even 85-90. With the price of gas these days, a more powerful 3 cylinder motor run at a lower rpm may be more efficient (and more fun) than running a smaller 2 cylinder motor at WOT all the time.

Re: is my 50 horse enough for ?

ya know, im going to have to disagree.

i have 3 examples

my personal boat, an aluminum flat bottom 16 foot long, 6 foot beam, storage compartments fishing pedastel and all, pretty heavy for an aluminum boat, i was running a 30 mariner and could actually pull a 180 pound man up on skis, now i have a 70 johnson on it, and wish i had the original 35 evinrude short shaft i had at first!

second example
my friend guys boat (yes his name is guy)
he has a shallow v bass boat, 17 foot long, prolly a 5 foot beam, had a 115 evinrude, blew the motor, got a 70 evinrude and put on that heavy fiberglass boat, it takes it a little longer to plane out, maybe 15 seconds total time to plane, but pushes that boat nicely, with 3 people, 2 ice chests and 30 gallons of fuel

thrid example
my friend scott, he use to live across the street from me when i lived in another house, he has a 13 1/2 foot boston whaler, full deck, 12 gallon tank, 2 deep cycle batteries, and with three people, and 2 ice chests, OLD 50 evinrude lark electric shift, and it SCREAMS! its faster than my lighter aluminum boat with a 70 johnny! (he also has an 18 foot grady white cabin cruiser with an 80 merc, and thats it! it moves, it aint no speed demon, but it planes)

im sure im about to hear an earfull over it, but id say if you like the new boat, slap that motor on there and fish your heart out! youd be suprised, you may be a little slow, but youll get out on the water and still find the fish.

just my opinion (no garauntees stated or implied)
