Is my compression too low?

I swapped the powerhead on my old chrysler 35 with one from a 55 and have been having problems trying to get it running. See my other post for details http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=337805

So I've got spark, fuel delivery is not an issue and I believe it's timed and synchronized properly yet it won't fire. I finally found my compression gauge and the result is 110 upper, 120 lower. Seems kinda low to me and I would definitely like to see those numbers a little closer together, but do you think that it's too low or should it still be able to start with that kind of compression?

The compression is low, a decarb once it is running may bring it up. However, the engine should run fine like that.

Make sure you hae the correct wires going from the CDI pack to the proper coil. I have seen them giving spark but at the wrong time because it was wired incorrectly.

The compression is what the guage says it is.With a GOOD guage.Your guage might read 120# my guage might read 150#
The most important thing is have the cylinders close. Both reading 120# or within 10# of each other.
You motor should run with those #s.J
