I have a 16ft fiberglass Quachita boat that came with a 50hp evinrude and steering. I have removed the 50hp and steering and I have an 18hp johnson tiller handle I want to use.
Is this engine too small?? Will it push the boat along ok ??? Opinions appreciated.

Ye, it will push the boat along, but you'll loose many points on the man card!!

A friend of mine had the same boat back in the 70's with a 50hp on it and it performed very good. I think you should try your 18 hp and see how you like it.

Sure an 18 will move it. But not very fast! The 18's a great engine but it cant do miracles. Don't expect to get it planing unless it's empty probably...
