Is my fuel line the problem here?

I didn't get a chance to take the boat out Sunday like we have every weekend of the summer... I totaled one of my motorcycles Friday on the way home from work and was pretty banged up. I plan on getting it out this Sunday, and I will diagnose everything that has been mentioned previously.

Thank you all for the replies...

Did you actually run out of gas on the main tank ???-------Or did something go wrong and now you are blaming the switch over event

It ran out... I bought this boat cheap last year at the end of the season just to see if we would use it. We had it out almost every weekend. It doesn't have a fuel gauge, but that's one of the things I'm going to add this winter now that I know I can spend some money on it. I carried two spare 5 gallon cans on board to refill the onboard tank when needed, buying two spare tanks along the way. It has run out several times while out on the lake; I would just grab the spares and refill and head on back close to the marina. The bulb would go soft and then I'd refill it and pump a few times til the bulb got tight again. The bulb was soft the other day just like every other time, and to tell the truth, I knew it had to be getting close I wasn't 20 feet out from the dock when it quit, but the wind and waves pushed me away in a hurry. I quickly connected this particular spare but it wouldn't run. EVERY time I have refilled over the summer the motor started right back up and we went on our way. That's why I think it must be the tank. I have a stick that I have used over the summer to check, but I did NOT do that this time. We are taking the boat out Sunday (supposed to be 94 here Sunday) and I will check to see if there is any in the tank before I add some. I also want to try the other spare tank to see if it's just the Attwood tank that might be a problem. I have an old 6 gallon Sail a Day that is in great shape that I got for $10.

Some of these new plastic tanks are junk.----Pick-up tune inside is suspect.-----Note ----When a motor is running the bulb does NOT stay hard.----Nor does it need to be !
