I think the SEI Alpha 1 gen 1 is only 1200 for the whole drive. Swap it out yourself and save a ton of labor. If you are intimidate by that, people here will help AND there are complete manuals available in the "Adult Only" section at the top of this section.

Best of luck.

Thats what I am looking at is the full drive, for 1200 bucks I might as well replace the entire thing. My buddy's dad is a boat mechanic that is willing to help for pretty cheap, but I probly will end up having him do the entire thing just because of my work schedule.

Ayuh,... The "Job" is only 6 nuts,+ a couple of clips,... Less than an hour, start to finish...

Ok, a little update, checked the oil in the lower unit today and no water in it at all. Needs to be changed but no leaks, also the lower unit isn't leaking any oil out either. I didn't get to have the mechanic look at it because the weather was bad but I will tomorrow.

The more I look at the first picture it looks as if it's had a repair cone put on it. Where the transition from the repair cone to the drive is you have to feather in with body putty. It looks as if a poor job was done and some of the putty came out. Probably not primed and painted correctly either. The paint needs to be sanded off entirely in this area on both sides.Putty should be kept as thin as possible when making this transition and should just come off level with the cone and onto the drive. Then a couple coats of zinc chromate primer and a couple coats of black. Don't build paint up thick with a lot of coats as it will break off in chunks if anything hits it. I think your problem is just cosmetic. I've put nose cones on several drives like this before with complete sucess. You should be able to do that repair easily in a afternoon for under $15.

well all sounds good but where did that big gouge come from !

putty doesnt just fall out and expose a 1/2 inch gouge..

+100, that is the bonus question of the day. Oh well having the mechanic look at it tomorrow, get his 2 cents and go from there. Thanks to everyone for all their input.

Re: Is my lower unit trashed?

Ok so in the end it was decided that repairing the damage to the lower would patch the problem and not solve it, risking a lot more damage down the road. Replaced the lower unit housing along with water pump, impeller, new gear lube and the upper was gone through as well. Good news out of this all was that my gears are in great shape and now the boat runs great.
