Re: Is my motor blown...your thoughts please?

I got around to pulling the head off. I'll let the photos below speak for themselves.
Does this look like detonation to you?
Lean cylinder?
Lack of lubrication?

The head looks to be in bad shape, probably can't save it. There is some scoring in the cylinder but not real bad. I'm not sure how deep is to deep? They can bore .040 over...is that correct?

Anyway, here's the photos. Please let me know what you think.

The knock you were hearing may have been piston slap. Is there noticeable side to side motion between piston and cylinder?

When you say, the head looks shot did you mean the piston head?

Do you have the wherewithal to strip down the engine?

Are there o ring grooves in the block and head? Do they look useable?

Is the engine fuel injected?

Not that I can tell much...however I suspect the rings broke and worked their way to the top of the piston thus causing the damage to the cylinder, the top of the piston and the dome on the cylinder head.

I was referring to the dome on the cylinder head. Both the cylinder head dome and the top of the piston are junk I'm sure.

I think I could do it. I haven't decided on this yet.

I'm not sure what you mean by this.

Is the engine fuel injected?
No, it is carbureted.

I'm thinking that there are grooves holding the o ring in place and wondering if both head and block have these grooves.

Oh, yes, both cylinder head and block have grooves where the o-rings seat and yes they appear to be usable.
