i have a 1980 mercury 200 black max with one trim cylinder and the pump inside the boat. the trim will work fine on land... it will go all the way up and all the way down..and it will work when im at very slow speeds on the water. it does not leak down at all. but it wont go up the slightest bit when a 1/2 or full throttle. is the pump shot? or is there a valve or something that could be bad?

There was several kits to repair this pump, a manual release kit and a check valve kit.

Re: is my power trim pump shot?

GKT,

I'm not sure if this is the case for all mecury trim systems, however with mine the system is designed so that the engine cannot be raised above the trim limit after it has reached a certain rpm / force against the transom. Basically when there is enough force the trailer trim will be pushed down to a safe level.

I am to understand the purpose is to ensure that the engine receives enough water to keep it cool and also so that the prop is not trying to push the bow up dangerously high.

I don't know if this can help you but just thought i'd throw it out there.
