Is my Shift Rod supposed to be Bent??

Hi there. I just took apart my 93 8hp long shaft evinrude to change the impeller and noticed that the shift rod is bent slightly from the top 8" up.

I was wondering if it was supposed to be like this?

The slight bend is normal

It looked to me like someone had let it hang on the rod.

I'll put it back together as is. They must have made it like that just to scare rookies like me.
