Re: Is name brand TCW-3 necessary?

I'll have to go look at some other threads as well, since I have the same question, but my experience with a 2 stroke in a standup jetski, oil wasn't oil.

I ran some cheap stuff in my ski once and my plugs fouled out quickly, within a day or two. I ran Kawasaki High Performance oil and can run several weeks or months on a set of plugs. Of course this isn't a stock motor, and I ran 91 Octane gas, so maybe that is where the difference comes in.

I haven't been around out-boards much lately, so I'm learning their "secrets". The guy who owns the marina I frequent says it doesn't matter. I just question it, because for my ski it did.

I'll go do some searching now....

This subject has been beaten into the ground so much is the reason we are taking this thread so lightly and making so many jokes!

If you still have questions about oil after reading all the oil posts for the next year, come on back and just ask. You will get plenty of answers.

Dhadley, so you'll know, the nickname "waterinthefuel" is one that derived from an old job I used to have at an airport. One of the things I was in charge of was fuel quality, i.e. making sure there was no, well, waterinthefuel! That's one of the main contaminants to look for in large fuel storage tanks, so it became my nickname, as is my nickname in many forums and gaming websites for online flight and first person shooter games.

I was hoping this thread would die a slow death, but you guys keep beating a dead horse. I couldn't delete the post so I begged it to stop bretheing and it didn't.

First person shooter games? I played Halo online until my wife couldn't take it anymore...so I stopped. Too darn addictive! :D

I then played a beta online game called War Rock. What fun! Then it went offline as the beta test was over. Any great games you playin' now? (Sorry off topic)

yep, on the flip side the boat I launced 20 minutes ago I put pistons and a new oil pump in in 1998, in the spring of 05 his fuel reciepts showed more than 13,000 gallons of gasoline had run through it.all on wally world oil and the OMS pump is still installed and working. this is a no maint boat. I put gears in the case last spring and did its "10" hour gear oil change last week, had burned another 2000 gallons or so.this motor averages 2700 gallons a year.
its an 89 frankenstien V4 OMC looper.
its got so many different year parts on it I cant remember what is what.
but he is 72 now and a good friend so I did it on the cheap.

Hey cobra,

I'm playing IL-2 Forgotten Battles, pacific fighters on Hyperlobby. I also play Battlefield 2 and a little Rainbow Six Raven Shield. I used to play tons of Ghost Recon games.

Well Rodbolt, thanks for the word of wisdom and assurance, I think I'll be using Wally's oil, since both my outboards are from the 80's era... :)

rodbolt, you lost me here. Your earlier post sounded like a wally world endorsement. Yet here, you say you don't recommend it?

I use Menhaden oil for my pre-mix>>>100% natural & leaves a great chum slick behind the boat.
My fishing output has tripled since I switched. I know its not TCW3 rated, but so what>>>AMSOIL isn't TCW3 rated either! :p
