I have a 88 bayliner with a 88 force 50hp (c model). The motor did not run when I got it, was told it was the stator. I also bought a $50 parts motor (also a 88 50hp c model) When I started trying to diagnois the motor it turned out the 2 brown wires are hooked together(the kill wires). I believe this is why he thought the stator was bad, he couldn't get any spark. Any ways I corrected that problem and had spark in only one cylinder. changed the cdi(or coil pack?, the one with spark plug wire attached) now I have great spark in both cylinders. Now my question (it's a easy one) does the #1 plug wire (top according to wiring diagram) go to the top spark plug? and bottom wire go to bottom plug? I ask because between the 2 engines that I got neither ran when I got them and one had the bottom power pack plug wire going to the top plug and the upper going to the lower plug???? So is the #1 cylinder the top or the bottom plug??? Sorry for dragging this out, I am overly excited right now, due to getting spark from both cylinders.:D

1 is top

top wire to top plug

the wires are usually only long enough to reach the correct plug

Thanks-that's what common sense told me, but wanted to make sure, can't fire it up until tomorrow when I can get the new fuel tank and fuel lines.
