Is OMC Dead?

I know OMC is out of business. Bombardiare purchased their assets. The newer OMC units (SX) were actually manufactured by Volvo-Penta (voint venture). So, parts for those units are OK.

However, I'm looking at a boat (1994 Four Winns) with an OMC King Cobra Cone Clutch.

I'm hearing that I will not be able to find parts for that outdrive anymore. Four Winns even told me parts are going to be a problem!

Anybody know the scoop on this? I really like this boat, but I don't want to repower or pay top dollar for parts down the road.

Howdy Jim.

I don't think Bombardier purchased the OMC brand of I/O hardware.

I think they purchased only the Johnson and Evinrude outboard names and assets.

Everything else was sold elsewhere.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

I think JB is correct.

I would stay away from the 4Winns if you cant get it fixed. Maybe there are aftermarket parts built?

I know I couldn't afford to replace my cracked valve cover on my Mastercraft because the genuine part was a fortune! I went with pretty chrome ones instead.

Edited post.
I would be a little leary for parts on older units. They may supply parts and or pledge support but I would not take a chance. OMC wasn't even good at suppling parts. Check this out for more info. http://www.omc-online.com/
