Is periodic servicing of bleeder check valves necessary?

I read in a recent post (dealing with a related but different subject) that the bleeder check valves should be "serviced" on a regular basis. I checked the Mecury shop manual, however, and it does not seem to mention anything about periodic servicing of these check valves.

I like to stay on top of my motor's maintenance requirements but don't know if or how to service these valves. I think I know what they do but I am unclear about servicing them. My specific questions are these:

1) Should the bleeder check valves be serviced on a periodic basis, and if so how are they serviced? Should they be removed and cleaned or simply replaced?

2) Is there a way to test the bleeder check valves for proper operation to determine if servicing or replacement is warranted.

3) What are the consequences/symptoms of a malfunctioning bleeder check valve? That is, what is the consequence/symptom if a bleeder check valve is plugged up and what is the consequence/symptom if the bleeder check valve is stuck open?

4) Could a defective bleeder check valve cause initial excessive smoke when restarting a previously warmed up motor?

There are eight bleeder check valves on my motor. Thanks for any info on this subject.

I can comment on 2 as they apply to my 200 Black Max. The one on the input side of the oil tank is a 2PSI valve that keeps the oil from draining back into the remote tank on shutdown. The one on the fuel pump lets oil into the pump without letting gas into the oil tank. They can be blown through to test op. Use LP air only, they are both 2PSI I believe. They should pass air/fluid in one direction only. The bleed lines from the carbs are a mystery to me. My manual shows where they go but says nothing about what they do. Ive been told if they go bad it can give you rough idle, bogs etc but I cant confirm this. Theres also one on the block under the starter that pressurises the remote oil tank. If it goes bad your resorvoir on the engine wont stay filled.

The wording in my initial posted questions was perhaps a little unclear (I have now corrected it). I am looking for information on the "bleeder" check valves only. The oil injection system check valves are a different group of check valves, which I did not intend to ask about. Thanks.
