If you have an old electric shift, you can use Dextron Automatic transmission fluid.

Tom..... The products from OMC, "Type C" and "Premium Blend" gearlube are the identical product. Use either product with complete peace of mind in the Electric or Hydro Electric shift units. OMC simply changed the name for some reason.

(Edited 11/30/03 - 01:37 EST)
As Seahorse has stated below (and I neglected to say earlier), I am speaking strictly about the OMC products, not some other manufacturers brand that might just have the "Premium Blend" quote. My apologies for not emphasizing that point previously.

To clarify what Joe said, the Bombardier or OMC Premium Blend replaces the old Type C oil and is the only one recommended for electric shift outboards. Other companies may call their lube a premium blend, but it is not the same, as you found out. Premium Blend is an OMC/Bombardier trademark but anyone can use the descriptive words "premium blend" to describe a product, but not to name that product.

hello
what they all said with a minor note. if the unit is total electric you might get away with ATF. I have seen it done. with the Hydro-electric it may bite you. the only 2 things these untits shere is they were made by omc and both have wires for shifhting.
good luck, find some type C and go play
