Hi, if you are going to keep it., best to get a full manual for maintinace, It is a good thing for any owner.

Yes, I agree, I will be getting one.

Noticed my 1985 140hp doing the steam thing in July while on vacation. I will post a link to the thread I started when I can find it.
To rule out the head gasket thing do a compression check
I have new water pump fitted 2 weeks before this issue. (No harm you changing the impeller if it is an unknown quantity)
My head temperatures were perfect
Tell tale on my motor has never been super strong in all the years we have had it. There is a lot of talk out here that the tell tale is a larger bore size than most on these loopers.
Do you have the water control valve still in place ?? it diverts the cooling water to where it is needed at different RPM (simply put) and there is a conversion you can do to match the later models (1992 and up I think ?)
Bottom line with mine is that with all the help and assistance I got out here and due to everything else about the motor being fine is that it is the wake catching up and flooding the overflow outlets on the midsection after a run.
I would write more but I am off to work. Will check in on this when I get home.

Thanks for your reply, I look forward to hearing more from you!

What is the water control valve? Unfortunately I don't know any previous things that have been done to this motor, I would have to guess its had nothing, it has hardly had any use at all, it was an old guy that had it, and never used it I was told, it looks brand new. I'm going to pick up an impeller kit today for it, I got an aftermarket one ordered in, hopefully its good, I just used one at the beginning of the year on my parents boat and it worked great!

Thanks

Will

Fix the fuel issue. If you are pre-mixing then change the pump to a premix pump.
Here's the link to my "steaming outboard" thread and I also bumped it up to the top again.

Yes, I'm just going to plug the nipple, I'll leave the pump alone for now. Don't want to spend money if I don't have to. I'll check out the steaming outboard thread, I don't see a link, I'll search for it.

Well had it out today to test it out and do a little fishing, it ran really good, no overheating, telltale worked fine, and after a hard run it still put out a little steam the first time then later on when running back to the ramp, I ran it flat out, and had no steam after that, and the stream of water was barely luke warm, and I could hold my hand on the cylinder heads fine. So far so good!!
