I have a chance to buy an 08 yamaha 2 stroke that has never been used for 3200 bucks. I think it is more than the owner paid for it 5 years ago from the dealer. Is this motor that much better than any four stroke motor than I can buy today. The most enticing thing for me is the low weight of the motor. Will this 2stroke outlast any 4stroke made in today's market. The biggest negative is the smoke it puts out but if this motor is way mor reliable I can deal with the smoke? Experts please chime in?

Hi gw. Generally speaking, Yamaha motors have a great reputation, particularly the 2-stroke models. While they do smoke a little, it's not bad at all and the light weight, simplicity and reliability of a 2-stroke vs. 4-stroke is well worth the trade off in my opinion. The 2-stokes are getting harder to find too, which also adds to their desirability. In fact, t2-stroke yamahas, along with evinrude ETEC motors are probably the most popular/desirable motors in my part of the world here in FL. I would jump all over the motor while you can. I guarantee it won't last long if it's being advertised. Of course, you'll want to try to get the best price possible so check online for prices on similar motors. Good luck. Keep us posted.
