Is the steering system for MErc compat. with OMC?

I have a merc 65hp from '74 on my 24' pontoon and had the stupid question:
Will the steering system on my barge fit an OMC from around '76, or do I need not only controls, but a whole new steering system?

not sure jb if your stating what somebody asked you or if your asking but here goes anyways,yes it will work the steering through tubes are the same ,they were pretty much standerized though all makes.now for the motor mounting im not positive when they standerized as i bought a boat that had a 115 merc on it previously and my 1982 90hp erude had a much wider pattern.im assuming the 115 was much older.the steering i used at the time and fit properly was the 115merc to my 90 rude so at least they were the same for that.
