is there a diff with marine 350's?

can a 350 in a boat be exchnaged with a reg 350 or is there a difference between that and a marine 350?

I have heard there are different carbs, distributors, starters and cams. Cant understand the cam or carb differences. But do understand why you need a special starter and distributors to help keep sparks and moisture out. The cam, I would assume you could put any Lift, duration, and LSA cam in. Just as long as it not too drastic. You would also need to use marine exhaust parts. Otherwise, I would assume they are they same. can any veterans chime in and further elaborate?

If you mean a shortblock it is just the brass freeze plugs ,or a long block it is plugs and head gaskets

put a 305 truck engine in mine.Old one had steel freeze plugs.Cam might be diffrent.Most boats have windage trays

i meant as far as the block goes, i realize the surroundings are diff

The blocks are all the same as far as when they come out of the casting mold.

I've heard if you use an automotive engine in your boat, it will immediately explode, and your boat will sink in .765 seconds.

A mixture of Startron and Seafoam can extend running time by a factor of ten, giving you a full 8 seconds prior to catastrophic failure...

I would assume you could put any Lift, duration, and LSA cam in.

...and you would be replacing your engine rather soon. Boats use a wet exhaust, and cams with alot of overlap cause reversion - it literaly sucks the water backwards through the exhaust into the engine.

Carbs are also different, not just in tuning, as they vent internally etc to prevent all of those nasty explosions we keep reading about.
