Hey All,

Is there a difference between chopped fiberglass matt and woven matt and which is better to be used for going over the floor and its associated creases/cracks when replacing the floor? If so, which is what and why?

Mat is the chopped fuzzy product, woven roving and other types of glass are not refered to as mat, they have their own names. I only say this to keep the terms straight so people know what product is being talked about, this happens frequently and we just try to keep the confusion to a minimum.

The mat will help other types of fabric bond and drape better over the plywood, it can be used by itself over the wood if no additional strength is needed, or woven and knitted fabrics can be used with it to add strength.

Without knowing exactly what project you have in mind there is no way to make a recommendation though.

I believe that CSM has to go down as the first layer or between layers when using polyester resin.

Generally speaking, CSM (Chopped Strand Mat) must be use with Polyester Resin to provide binders for the resin mix to prevent cracking a layer of woven roving or woven cloth/fabric is then applied over the CSM to provide additiona strength. When using epoxy resin CSM is not required since Epoxy has binding agents in the resin mix itself and only cloth or resin is needed for additional strength. This is a very general and basic explanation of the subject. ondarvr is a factory rep and knows a lot more about this than I do so if you post up exactly what you are doing I'm sure he will give you all the info you'll need to do the job correctly.
