Is there a such motor?

I got this motor from a guy and he told me it was a 1986 200 hp black max but the cowl says xr2 and all I find on the xr2's is that it is a 150. So is there a 1986 200 hp xr2 black max? And how can I tell if it is a 150 or a 200?

There is a top thread in the forum here with links to sites showing model numbers.

Locate your serial/model number and cross reference it to see what motor you have.

Does tha cowl have two metal, spring loaded type latches on tha front or just tha plastic single type latch in tha middle? Can you post a picture of tha air box?

No there is not a "production" xr2 200. Only a high performance model sold mostly overseas and roundy round circuit.............They do turn up ever so often in tha "normal" boating world.

It does have 2 metal latches with springs. the serial number is 5363922. It has red strippes if that helps but someone could have changed the cowl. What would be different on the 200 and 150 that can look at and tell the difference/

With that type of latch at tha very most it could be is a 175. That latch will only work on whats called a vertical reed motor. 200's have tha horizontal reed front half. On tha heads, outside edge close to tha top will be a small circular stamp with either 3 1/8 or 3 3/8 stamped in it if it has not been molested or tha heads changed. Take a look............

From the serial # you posted its a pre 1982 engine either a 150 or 175. It should have the trim motor inside the boat and should have a single big ram on midsection, if 2 smaller rams its a 1979 or earlier...

If its a first generation block like Fb seems ta think, I don't think it will have tha little stamp on tha heads.................
