Is there any to easily clean the carbs & fuel bowls?

I'm still working with my 1995 90 hp envirude (Ocean Pro). I sucked some sludge into the carbs, that was in the gas tank. I had tried to suck out all the sludge out of the gas tank, but must have missed a glump or two. I'm sure the "gunk" is in the carbs and bowls. Is there an easy way to flush them out? <br /><br />The boat is in the shop now. I have ordered the shop manual. I was just wondering if I could just spray some evinrude carb cleaner down the carbs, while running, to clean her out. <br /><br />I'll probably end up replacing the fuel tank on the '83 Boston Whaler, 17', Mntk at the end of the season. Anyone have a good web page for Whaler parts?. Thanks

Spraying anything through or into the carbs is a waste of time and could do more harm than good.<br /><br />Tear the carbs down and clean them properly.

Might help to install an in line fuel filter to catch the crud before it gets to the carbs.

You make it sound so easy to "do it properly" I know that if you have a fully stocked shop full of "the special tools" and if you have done it several times, "do it properly" is "no big deal"! Like I said I've got the book coming and I'll see what all is involved!! I was just looking for a way to get back to the dock, without having to use the paddel again..... Its in the shop now, like I said, I'll put in an in-line filter when I get it back. I cannot think of a real good place to put a good filter in the 17" whaler. Can you? Thanks

JB or OB could advise you on location for the filter. Might want to post a separate post for that. They both have Whalers.

I'm using an OMC full sized filter and they are difficult to place. But, I see a lot of guys using the small, automotive type in-line gasoline filters that they have just cut into the fuel line with a couple of clamps. I think that they are worlds ahead of nothing at all and cheap enough to replace.

No "special tools" required to properly clean a carb. If you're looking for a quick fix, keep that paddle handy... otherwise wait it out for the manual and do it right...<br />- Scott

Thanks guys<br /> I just talked to the marina and there was real "nasty gas" in the carbs. They took them out and cleaned them. I'll get the rig in the morning. They also flushed my gas tank. (Between Master Card and my check book, I think I'll be able to afford to get her out of "hock").<br /><br /> I was going to put in one of those little "in-line" filters, like some cars/lawn mowers have, until I put in a new tank. Today they said the tank was fine. I want to put in one of those oil filter sized water separator style filters but like I said don't know where to put it. Not many choices and none look good.<br /><br /> I'll take your advice and do another post. Just found out the shop manual is on back order and I'm not sure when it will get in. Thanks
