I have a 1954 Johnson Seahorse outboard motor with electric start. It appears to be in excellent original condition. It holds great compression and the starter still works. Is there anyone Near Tulsa, OK that can hook it up for a test run before I invest a lot of money into all the accessories for it? If you can help or have any suggestions, please shoot me an email! :)

Thanks,
-Ron
:D

Hi,
I'm not near you, I'm in Alabama, but I just couldn't resist asking....

:) when you said "all the accessories for it?",
does that mean the boat

Enjoy the motor and if it's the boat you need to get, be sure you put it on something of the same vintage. They make a great pair. Here's the URL of mine that is currently being tuned, getting ready for a bath!
http://webpages.charter.net/suzieb1/JohnsonImages/Lido.htm

Heya Mark,
I'm gonna send ya an email soon.

Susie,
What I mean by "accesories" is the starter control box, that the three wires and power wires connect to and a Johnson pressurized gas tank. This motor has an inlet and outlet port on the fuel line quick connect. One side allows fuel in from the tank and the other side uses air pressure from the motor to keep a constant pressure in the gas tank. I don't have the electronics or fuel line/tank to connect my motor to.

Oh ya, I forgot to mention it's going on my 1957 Arkansas Traveler 15' Vhull aluminum boat. I think they will make a great couple.

Thanks Ya'll,

OK, maybe it's too late at night and I'm too tired, but I can't figure out where to get users' email info.??

Hey Mark,
Could you drop me a line at rhharmsen@gbronline.com. I'd like to talk with you on trying to test run my '54 Johnson Seahorse motor. I'm up in Owasso, so Broken Arrow is pretty close to us.

Thanks,

Ron,

You said "I don't have the electronics or fuel line/tank to connect my motor to."

I can't help with the electronics, but maybe some of the more knowledgeable people on this forum can tell you if your motor is a candidate for a fuel pump conversion like is on my motor. It would solve a couple of your problem and it makes it soooo much nicer.

I have a page of pictures up showing how mine is if you want to check it out. It was that way when I got it, so I don't know what the cost would be, but I'm sure someone of this forum can help you with that info too.

Here's the page:
http://webpages.charter.net/suzieb1/JohnsonImages/FuelPumpConversion1.htm

If you want any other pictures, let me know and I'll try to get what you need.

And to Rickdeb1boat "Thanks" I really like their looks too - with age comes beauty!

Ron, I haven't been able to find a way to get an e-mail address to write anyone directly, so that's why I put mine in my signature line. If you find out, let me know how it's done.

Thanks Ya'll.

Suzie, thanks for the info. Before I spend any money on the motor, I want to make sure it runs good first. That's why I'm looking for someone that already has the neccessary accessories to start and run this motor. But if I do the fuel pump conversion those pics and info will help.

Richard, I just sent you an email to yer home address. Look forward to hearing from you.

(hopefully my email address appears below now. I just tried to update my profile.)

cigarxtc, lots of luck trying to find an old pressurized two hose tank. They haven't been made for years. For starting, you can just pull start it, but the tank is a different story. If you own the motor, get a vacuum actuated fuel pump from a dealer (not a big deal). Then you could use any single hose plastic fuel tank.

You can get tanks off ebay cheaper than the pump.
Here's one.

Paul, that one's at $53 (US!) already with 3+ days to go + $23 shipping. I don't think the fuel pump kit is that pricey.
