Re: is there something to follow

is there a way to attach a pic onto the form or does that have to be done seperatly its my belief that the pics in the manual are not the same as I have in my hand because I could not find the exact model number mine had a S behind the numbers. I took the 4 screws out inside the housing there are no more screws to remove the housing. maybe mine is different and that is causing the frustration. Im sorry for taking so much of your time. I have all the manuals from both site with the pictures and they do not look like my housing

Prop shafts can be hard to come out, ive fortunately never had to buy a puller yet though, on the ones that have being tough for me ive used a block of wood with a hole in it and used the prop and the nut to tighten it down and force it off.
Yes you can post photos easy. Just click on the icon in the icon row at the top of these quick reply boxes that is third from the right, it has a tree in the icon

that is the shaft that wont come out. isnt that the one I took the bolt off inside the houseing? all the bolts are out where the water pump is and the prop shaft is out , do I some how have to get that gear off by prying after I already have the nut off?

Bosun---There is no shift shaft on a 1972 model 65 HP.---------Put a vicegrip on the driveshaft and a light tap should pop the driveshaft out.

should I try to hit the end of the drive shaft inside the housing where I removed the nut and tap on that upward? or are you saying put the vise grips on the top and gently hit upward?

racerone : A 100 thanks, I got it, I got it ,I got it the people in my neighborhood heard my screams of joy and thought I had hurt myself . worst of all my wife found out that I was secretly attempting to fix the boat after its been broke for 2 years ago. She had said just throw it out we are done on the lake, we had neither funds or know how to do this so she ,to say the least was a little shocked I have been nibbling at it behind her back. I cant tell you the great feeling of getting the housing all the way empty. I could not have done it without all the input and help. I know I have a long way to go and its one thing to tare apart and a whole other to put something back together. many thanks and please dont forget me as i attempt to finish this. Have a great day.

as I am looking down the vertical shaft into the housing I see what looks like some kind of bearing it looks clean and free from any particles and I can move it smoothly all around can that stay in there? cause I see no way to ever get that out . does this make sense?

???-----You see no way to get it out. ???-----Why do you say that ?----It was installed so it can also be removed as well, it just takes experience and know how !!

there is no way to reach it from the inside of the housing ( no room to do that) does it come out through the top some how and if so it would have to come up about 10 inches , but what kind of tools would be able to do that?

Threaded rod and a nut.------Pretty simple stuff really.---------A positive approach to repairs is always good.--------Never say " it can't be done "
