Ok, I'm trying to determine whether the flywheel key in my motor 95 model 15hp 4 stroke evinrude is OEM factory or hardware type. key is OMC 0307480 I bought this motor used and I want everything to be "right" on it. I dont want the key to shear when I need this back up motor in an emergency and I'm 10 miles from shore.

I have lapped the tapers and I started to order another key this morning. However the dixie marine website picture showed the key to look very similar to the one I already have in my motor. I dont understand why the key has the two punch marks in the side of it. (also I didnt find this part on the i boat website)

thanks for your help!

307480 is correct. The "punch" marks are to keep the key tightly in the slot while you lower the flywheel over it.

Note that the outer edge of the key is to be straight with the vertical position of the engine, NOT aligned with the crankshaft taper.

Thank you very much! That seems so logical. I'm glad we have this forum. Now if I can just figure out why the motor has spark sometimes and then other times no spark
