Hello, I just got a 1975 165 hp mercruiser that has had work done on the outdrive and was noticing that the exhaust bellows is not connected to the out drive itself. I was just wanting to know if this is how it should be. Thanks

No, that's not how it should be. It should be a bellows, not a tube. The tube was used on big block V8s to relieve exhaust back pressure. The 6s and 4s were never fitted with tubes. It's probably been done by a previous owner who was too lazy to do the job right  The bellows are harder to fit, but I prefer them... You can leave it like that, no harm will happen, or you can (as I would) replace it with the right part...

Yes, That's fine, it's a Mercruiser "exhaust tube". It's cheaper, and easier to install, and gives you a little louder exhaust sound.
