IS THIS FAIR, OR A RIP-OFF?

Here in Malta, it is hard to make price comparisons. We went to the local Johnson dealer to buy a replacement trim switch (that's the little sender switch that sits under the motor and gives the trim position signal to the dial on the console) for a 96 50hp Johnson twin 2-stroke.

We were quoted $150! Is that a fair going rate, or are we being ripped-off? It seems much too high.

I told the guy to get lost, because I could run my boat for a month on that, and I'd rather look round whenever I adjusted the trim than pay such a price.

Was I being too hasty?

It sells for around $60 USD in the US. I'll have to let you judge if that's a normal mark-up.

on a 50 I would just look at the rooster tail and the bow attitude before spending the money on a sender thats seems failure prone anyway.

Thanks Rodbolt,

That's what I do anyway, just to make sure everything's trimmed right and to watch the peehole. We get a lot of floating weed here.

Matter of detail, I've swung the peehole horizontally, so it's easier to see, and I've put a quick-connector on it so that the motor can be backflushed.
