Is this flooding or what causes this???

I got a 1988 15 hp 2-stroke merc. i dotn know what happened but out of the blue since the last time i used the boat it will not idle. i am in the process of replacing plugs(tonight). But it always started on first or second pull. I took the cowling off and after like 20 pulls i cna get it to go by manually forcing the throttel on the carb while i pull the cord, then as soon as you let off the gas she dies. Could this only be fowled plugs? I took the carb off and it was very clean and the bowl looked fine as well as the float. But i did notice this. When starting it when it actually caught and fired up i could see in the barrel and gas was flowing out of the tube where the float is. so it would run then it would choke it self out and gas would flow out of carb and into powerhead and into water. so i took of the fuel line and got it to run and idle, as soon as i hooked up line with pressure it died, or flooeded itself. Any thought sor ideas. As i say i have th ecarb off right now and it looks fine. The needle looks clean and the float has no holes or isnt sunk...Anything would be great...

id say rebuild the carbs and fuel pump. how long was the last time you used it?

Well its been about a week or so that i last ran it. I can not figure out what would have caused this. It purred like a kitten until recently. I am going to clean out the carb and i purchased new plugs and see how that does than i will look at rebuilding carb adn pump. There is not much boating elft for the year so if i can get it to last me till winter. Through duck hunting season and fishing, then i will be doing alot of work on it this winter...I'll let ya know how the plugs make out. My mechanic buddy seems to think the plugs are fowled and what i think is flooding is the fact that the fuel isnt being burned ...so we'll see...

well upon further research on iboats i found a post that referenced my same motor and the symptoms were similar to mine. I am going to check this on my carb. One symptom i forgot to mention that was after the engine would run and bog itself out there would be a sucking noise in the carb. So after reading this post it got me to thinking that it could be the primer bulb. As i was pulling the rpimer many times trying to get it running. The sound would be the sound the primer bulb would make when you push it all the way in and it slowy comes back to its original position. So im wondering if the ball is getting stuck in the spring in the primer. I am going to dismantle this and clean the entire thing out and verify that it is not being stuck down which would lead to the valve being stuck open and pouring fule into the carb therefore causing flooding or a very rich fuel mixture. Will post my results..

well....installed new plugs and newly cleaned carb. Started on first pull...ran for like 10 seconds then choked out and gas began flowing out front of carb and into the powerhead. So im guessing that i need to rebuild carb. I dont know if i need to completely rebuild or just part of it. the gas is coming up from the center tube that runs up from where float is. Not spraying just flowing out. When i push on bulb i can force fuel out. So what does this mean? Also i dont know if this is right or not. I'll try and explain as best i can without knowing all the proper terminology. the tube in the center that feeds the fuel into the carb barrel has a skinny tube inbside it that runs down to the main fuel jet in the bowl. It is pushed to one side of the larger tube in which it rests in. Is this right or should it be centered in it and should it come down completely to the fuel jet centered? these two tubes are part of the main body of the carb. I am really curious as to why it is not centered. Any ideas would be helpful as i would love to be able to do some more boatin before time runs out here..winter...and if i do need to do a rebuild id like to get on it asap...
