Drove by two gas stations that are next door to each other. When I drove by both stations had advertized their gas at 2.19 per gallon. When I drove back by a 1/2hour later one had changed it's price to 2.26 per gallon, I pull into the one advertizing the cheaper price, as she is pumping the phone rings, she answers it and then proceeds to tell me I'm lucky. So I say "WHY"? she says they just told me to raise the price to 2.26 per gallon.

So could this be fraud since they did not have a new delivery of gas and raised the price on the gas already in their storage tanks????

No, they can charge whatever you'll pay. Price fixing would be if the two owners called each other before they put the price up in unison. That would be illegal . . .

It happens all the time and the gas station is the one takeing the beating on the next tank fillup

If it goes up .30 a gallon on his cost X a 3500 gallon drop its a grand out of his pocket

I've seen prices raised and lowered more than once in a day's time. No fraud, it's the way it is. We either accept it or walk.

Re: IS THIS FRUAD!!!

I am reminded of a story I read years ago concerning two brothers that were competing merchants in a dry good and general merchandise.

Everyone new the two brothers had had a falling out years before and would alway try to undercut the others business.

One time it was leather trench coats. One would display in his store front a nice coat with the price predominantly displayed.
The next day the brother across the street had the same coat for a little less.

This would start a price war and the locals would benefit from the ill will of the two brothers. Folks would buy the trench coats even if they really did not need one.

This was a frequent occurrence.

After the brothers both retired/died whatever on of the building was purchased and being renovated. They found in the basement of one building an underground utility tunnel that connected only the two buildings.

Seems the brothers had all along be playing a game. They would buy on wholesale the same item. They would shuffle it back and forth between the two stores as the lowered the price.

People being greedy would buy up all the stock they had purchased for this charade.

Anybody else hear of this or is it just an "urban legend"?

It's not the price they paid for product in the tank they are charging you. They are charging you the replacement-cost, in additition to their proffit margin, which may,or may not remain the same.

its called gas futures.......

Most tanks are filled maybe once or twice a week........gas can change price numerous times a day, even an hour.

Think about it, if stations charged u based on what the stuff in the tank cost them, every station that paid more because oil prices went up that day would be at a huge disadvantage.

Futures prices change by the second every second the market is open.

Other than that, Pony is right on the money. :p
