I would like to add that this is where I store two tanks on my 16SS. One 6 gallon on either side with the battery in the middle. The battery is in a plastic battery box to protect against spills. It has the cover to protect the posts from coming into contact with anything metal. On the plastic 6 gallon tanks I don't keep them in the boat when the boat is stored, and the fill lids have vents that can be opened and closed as needed. The tanks will expand if the vents are left closed, but I'm always careful when I open them. The battery box is secured to the deck, and the tanks are strapped on place to prevent them from moving as well.

My SS is an 81, and it does not have a drop down door or sliders to close off the area under the splashwell. I do plan on adding one at some point.

Whenever I figure out how to post pics using my new tablet I'll try and upload one. The battery box came from bass pro shops, but they sell a similar model just about everywhere including wally world and here on iboats.

Put the boat in the water today but will fix battery issue before I go out. I really appreciate all the help.

Thanks for the reply Tnstratofam, this one is an 82

Here's how I set up the fuel tank in my SN so it's secure and doesn't make a mess. A garage drip pan fastened to the deck with SS screws and 5200 with a tie down strap underneath it and buckled over the tank.
