Having a hard time getting reverse to engage. Is this what full reverse is supposed to look like? Should it be a full 90 degrees sideways? If I stick a large flathead in there and push it just a fraction more, the prop locks up like it should.

they weren't lined up once when I put drive on and I fear i bent the shoe

Was the drive split?

Edit: Scratch that, you did bend the shoe, and no it won't be 90 degrees

I split the drive just now. The shoe looks fine, but the washer was all jacked up.. so I reflattened it and im putting it back together.

Getting the shift shafts to line up is a bear.

Got it back together... and its like the shifter cable is just millimeters away from pushing it into reverse enough to catch

In Alpha Gen 2 12 o'clock forward is FWD, 11 o'clock is N, and 10 o'clock is REV. ...If it shifted OK before you did your work, it sounds like something got bent. 9 o'clock - 90 degrees says something is wrong.

See if your foot clocks correctly in FWD. If it's off CCW, and it's a fight getting the drive back on, I'm guessing the lower shift shaft has been tweaked off.

This is a gen 1. Everything worked fine, albeit stiff.

Because it was stiff, I did chris' youtube procedure to improve it (even though it didn't help with upper red cable). Well, the shifter isn't stiff anymore... but I lost reverse.

if I take the lower unit off, I can get the prop to lock up in either direction by hand. I lock it in forward with a bungie, reinstall.. still no reverse.

Is there a downloadable manual I can study??
