Is this good buy 1996 Wellcraft Excel 1950SS Ski Boat - $7999

Hi,
I'm thinking of buying this boat, a 1996 Wellcraft Excel 1950SS Ski Boat - $7999 , check out the Craigs List post (http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/boa/1033036318.html) and tell me what you think. I will be using this in the Northwest lakes. Some of my questions:
How good is this boat on fuel use, overall performance, maintenance and upkeep costs? Basically I just like to motor around and explore. Maybe some pulling tubes.

I don't about the price of used boats in your area, but they can't give them away in NJ.
Seems not right to have had to replace all that at 100hrs.

This is a smoking deal, you should really offer the guy 10K as he is practically giving it away. Just kidding, this is my boat, if you read my posts you will hear the life story of this boat from the time I purchased it 5 years ago. I learned a tremendous amount about boats from this forum and the folks here are super helpful with any problems. Let me know if you want to take her for a spin, it is a fun boat.

There are two reasons for all of the replacement parts, 1. I am anal about my stuff and do not like to break down on the lake. 2. The boat only had 50 hours on it when I purchased it in 2004 and had sat on the hard for 5 years so all of the rubber and plastics needed to be replaced. In the NW boats are still selling just not as fast as usual. I have actually had a fair amount of interest in this boat because of the price and condition. Plus it is a quality brand so that helps.

Should be a very good ride aka very dry on high wind days...a progressive v hull makes for cutting a heavy chop @ speed....very stable when just sitting aka people moving about without a bunch of roll.

The boats big enough to use in the sound...rivers and any lake

That's a very nice open bow boat with fiberglass floor and snap in before it became the norm. 12 years old so not new, but certainly worth the price if it is as good of condition as said. Is it a "steal" ? well, lets look at it this way, you could get a "similar" boat in not quite as good condition for less most likely. THEN do all the things this guy already did and spend as much or more! Also, if interior is very good, your boat will feel like new to you.

Test it out.

it does not matter what you have invested in the boat. most of that was normal maintenance on a 13 year old boat. it is what some at this time is willing to pay for it. unfortunately is this market the seller is going to be very disappointed. here: $4,000 tops if you want to move it. sorry.

YEA, have to agree with what TASHASDADDY said. 8 grand is a hunk of change for a 13 yro boat regardless of all the new parts. Had to replace the oil seals on an engine with 150 hrs. ? sorry FRED

In a normal market, I give her $6k and $750 for the trailer.
One of the problems I see in my area is people dump a bunch of coin in something and think it inflates the value. They try to get the repair bill back out of it by selling it. I'm sure this works sometimes on the less knowledgeable. It may be that you'll get your price if you're not in a hurry.

If you like the boat, I would make an offer.

You guys clearly do not understand the market in the PNW. Any similar sized boat cheaper than this one in the state of Washington either has the 3.0L motor or is older. I have done all the research before setting the price. The lifespan of seals and gaskets has little to do with the hours on a typical boat, this boat sat on a trailer a lot when it was newer and this stuff dried out. Read the post.

not my type of boat but looks verry well maintained and with any boat the key thing is mantence by an anal person
