Is this motor too big for my boat?

I have a 12 foot aluminum boat. It's a nice size 12 foot aluminum boats, but still 12 feet none the less. I have a 2005 Mercury 15hp long shaft Big Foot 4 stroke with about 10 hours on it for $1300. Is this too much for my boat? It says 15hp is ok, but I know very little about motors and the guy went on and on about the "long shaft big foot" aspect of it.

Also, is this a good motor?

Easy to work on?

Reliable if taken care of?

A good deal? I've only really been pricing Honda motors and this seems really cheap in comparison. So I was wondering why? He had it listed at $1600 and we settled at $1300.

Anyways, I can have this lined up for Tuesday after work...

what do you think? Advice? Things to look for?

thanks!

I hate to be the one to break this too you, but the engine on the back of your boat is not a Mercury, It's a Honda.

But if the plate says 15 hp or greater, then it's not too big

lol, that's my old motor. It's the only picture of the back of the boat I have. I'm looking to purchase the motor in question.

thanks

15HP is OK, but.....

- Long Shaft is meant for a taller transom, looks like you have a 15" transom
- Bigfoot is meant for high load applications, like being a kicker motor for a much bigger, heavier boat, not light load applications like your boat

I don't think it's a good match.
